Girls Riding Together

GRiT is how we make sure girls are not just allowed on the team, they are expected, welcomed, and celebrated.

Across NICA, about a quarter of riders are girls. Girls do great once they join, but too many never get invited or never feel like the sport is “for them.”

GRiT – Girls Riding Together – is how we change that story. We are building a culture where your daughter feels like she belongs the moment she rolls up.

What GRiT looks like On the Lynx

GRiT is baked into the way we run the team. You might see:

  • Girls-only “Try it Out” rides
Easy, no-pressure rides where girls and their friends can test the trails with support.

  • GRiT meetups at regular practices
Short breakouts inside normal practice where girls connect, set goals, or work on a specific skill together.

  • Special GRiT rides and events
League-level GRiT rides, clinics, or camps where girls from across Florida ride, learn, and lead together.

  • Role models on the front of the line
Female coaches riding point on group rides, coaching skills, and sharing their own stories of getting into mountain biking.

GRiT isn’t a separate team, it’s just one of the ways we keep our promise to be inclusive and welcoming in a sport that has not always felt that way.

For parents: why GRiT matters

If you are a parent of a daughter, you might be wondering:

  • Will she be safe?

  • Will she be welcome?

  • Will she be the only girl?

  • Will anyone see her if she is not a natural daredevil?

GRiT exists to answer those questions with a solid yes to safety, welcome, and support.

For girls: why join?

If you’re a girl thinking about joining, GRiT gives you:

  • Friends who get it
You are not the only girl on the ride. You have others beside you.

  • A safe place to learn
You can ask the “basic” questions and try new things without feeling silly.

  • Real confidence, on and off the bike
Clearing a root line, riding a climb, or finishing a race does something deep inside. You carry that into school, work, and life.

  • Voice and leadership
As you grow, you can help lead GRiT rides, welcome new girls, or become a GRiT student ambassador in the league.

For everyone: how to help

If we are going to see more girls on bikes, we need more women in the mix and more men paying attention.

You can help by:

  • Volunteering as a female coach or ride leader

  • Helping host or support GRiT rides and socials

  • Extending a personal invite to the girls in your life

  • Watching your language and choices so girls feel safe and seen, not sidelined

Our league has a GRiT Coordinator who works with teams like the Lynx to plan events and support female riders and coaches.
